The side slots are a small thing but they actually matter—my guinea pig pulls hay from the front now instead of dragging it all out the top. Refilling is easy since there's no lid to fiddle with. Been using it a couple weeks and it's held up fine.
The open top makes refilling so much quicker than the narrow slot feeder I had before, and my guinea pig can reach the hay from the side without dragging it out. Cleaning is easy too since there are no corners for bits to get stuck in.
